Endemic Birding Tour in Sri Lanka
This is a short but a comprehensive birding tour which will give you the chance to cover the lowland rainforests, central highlands with its cloud forests and the dry lowlands to see the 34 endemics and the further 52 subcontinental endemics unique to this region in addition to a variety of resident species and seasonal migrants.
Day 01: Arrival and transfer to Sinharaja (3 ½ hour drive). Time permitting, birding in the outskirts of the Sinharaja Forest Reserve in the afternoon. Spend 03 nights at Rockview Hotel in Sinharaja.
Days 02-03: Birding in the Sinharaja and its outskirts including Morapitiya and Athwelthota forests in search of lowland endemics.
Day 04: Leave for Yala (4 ½ hour drive). Afternoon, birding in Yala National Park for dry-zone endemics. Overnight at Hibiscus Garden Hotel in Tissamaharama.
Day 05: Early morning birding in Bundala National Park. Afterwards, leave for Nuwara Eliya (4 ½ hour drive). Late afternoon, visit Galway’s Forest. Spend 02 nights at the Heaven Seven Hotel in Nuwara Eliya.
Days 06: Full day birding in Horton Plains and Hakgala Botanical Gardens for highland endemics.
Day 07: Early morning, visit Victoria Park. Leave for Kithulgala in the late morning (2 ½ hour drive). Afternoon birding in the Makandawa Forest Reserve for lowland endemics. Overnight stay at the Plantation Hotel in Kithulgala.
Day 08: Early morning, one last birding excursion around Kithulgala or the Makandawa Forest. Afterwards, drop-off to the Bandaranaike International Airport.
